Stepping Out of the Box | A Gift of Speech

It can be scary to step out of your box.  I will admit that there have been times that it has stopped me from saying or doing things that I wanted to do.  One of my goals this year is to step out of my protective box.  To share my knowledge accepting accolades and criticism alike (ok, there were my big words for this post)!

On March 2nd at 8 am, I will be presenting at CSUN’s International Assistive Technology Conference #CSUNATC17.  Today, I sent in my proposal to speak at ASHA in the fall.

Speaking of stepping out of my box, I stepped into a chair this morning, so let’s just say I am hobbling today with jammed/broken toes.  But on the upside, I have been on my recliner icing my foot all day, so it gave me the time to sit down and send in my ASHA proposal.

I have given professional development classes before.  They were scary, but they were in a safe environment of my coworkers (though someone did fall asleep on me, but I didn’t take it personally as it was in the summer and on the mandatory side).  So speaking at CSUN’s conference this March is definitely stepping out of my box, but I am excited.  By stepping out of my box I am leaving prints for others.  I hope that these prints will help us communicate together!  I am also hoping for some kids to talk back!

Stepping out of the box can be painful and it can be scary, but it is also amazing and encouraging!  So please wish me luck next week as I step out of my box, and hopefully I will see you at ASHA.
