Drop’n rocks for R’s
This is an activity for distributive practice and/or generalization for r’s. There are so many different ways to play this activity, these are just some of those that I have done so far.
You will need: rocks and string
- First, tie a piece of string into a circle.
- Gather up various colors, sizes, shapes, and textures of rocks.
How to play!
- Have the child lay down the string. Have them label “string”. They can talk about putting down the string. You can have them make shapes out of the string.
- The child chooses a rock and drops it, trying to make it into the middle of the string
- String, drop, rock, rough, first, my turn, your turn
- Descriptive words for rock: smooth, shiny, rough, sharp, etc.
- Where did the rock drop? Inside, outside, off the table, on the floor
